MR FISHER RESIGNS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association ] Sydney, June 20. . To-day’s count placed the result of the Hume contest beyond doubt. Late figures give Mr Patten a lead of 381 over Sir V\ . Lyno, with only 350 uncounted. When the Liberal victory was assured, Mr Fisher accepted the inevitable and handed in his resignation. Mr Cook departed for Melbourne to-night. Mr McKay’s (Liberal) request for a recount at Ballarat has been refused, on the ground that nothing has been disclosed to justify it. Mr Hedges, the unsuccessful Liberal
candidate at Perth, has notified that it is his intention to test the legality of the election. (Received 9.35 a.m.) Sydney, June 21. The Illawarra recount is completed, and leaves the position unaltered.
