EXCITED CREDITORS

An angry scene occurred at the meeting of creditors in the estate of Jas. Macgregor, land agent, Hamilton. The liabilities show £2062, assets, house and furniture, £l5O. Bankrupt’s father, Mr Alex Macgregor, of Masterton, is the biggest creditor with £196.
The bankrupt stated that undue pressure had been brought by his father who had compelled him to file. Questioned re the motor on which there was £76 owing, which he consigned to his father under threat of being seized, the Assignee said the act was grossly improper, and brought bankrupt under the penal clause of the Bankruptcy Act.
An angry scene followed, when the father’s solicitor moved a vote of syriipathy. The vendors of the car they would leave the jheeting if the motion was put. They eventually stormed out of the meeting calling out “no quorum! no meeting!” Subsequently they decided not to lake action under the penal clause.
