“AU REVOIR.”

TO SIR JOSEPH WARD.

THE TROCADERO LUNCHEON. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] I United Press Association.] (Received 10.00 a.in.) London, June 18. The Hon. Thos. Mackenzie (High Commissioner), entertained Sir Joseph Ward at a farewell luncheon at the Trocadero. Amongst those present were the Hon. L. V. Harcourt (Secretary of State for the Colonies), Lord Emmett (Under-Secretary), Sir John Anderson (Permanent Under Secretary), Lord Blyth, Sir George Reid (Commonwealth High Commissioner), and several Agents-General. The Hon. Mr Mackenzie, in proposing Sir Joseph Ward’s health, said New Zealand was indebted to Sir Joseph Ward for the Advances to Settlers’ Act, and in a wider sense for postal reform, and for the giving of the Dreadnought. Sir George Reid said that as long as Sir Joseph Ward lived the Empire would have a powerful advocate.

Sir Joseph Ward, responding, paid a tribute to the Motherland’s judiciary. Mr Harcourt declared that he appreciated the references to the judiciary. He hoped shortly to pass a Bill giving effect to the wishes expressed at the Imperial Conference, when he trusted to see a New Zealand judge in participation with the judicial committee. Mr Harcourt concluded bywishing Sir Joseph Ward “au revoir.”
