CONCILIATING THE SOCIALISTS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright [United Press Association.] (Received 8 a.m.) Paris, May 28. With a view to conciliating the Socialists, the Government has introduced a progressive income tax bill to cover the interest on the redemption ol a forty million military loan, commencing on January, 1915. The hill will impose one per cent duty on incomes up to £2OOO, two per cent up to £4OOO, and three per cent above £4OOO. The first £4OO of income will he exempt. Further exemptions are included of £lO per child under sixteen years of age, or the parent or grand-pai ents over 70 years, dependent on the taxpayer. The total yield is estimated at £2,800,000. The Chamber voted the first yeai s expense, returning the time-expired soldiers’ colours.
