POLICE CAPTURE BURGLAR AFTER AN EXCITING CHASE. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.]

(Received 9.10 a.m.) Brisbane, May 27. Ihe proprietor of an hotel reported to the police that his safe had been burgled of £6O, so a Detective Head and Constable Scanlon met the Brisbane train at Toowoomba, and tackled the suspect, who fled along the platform, hoping the officers covered with a revolver.

Constable Scanlon, dashed in and was struck by an umbrella, and then fell. Detective Head continued the pursuit, and after a desperate struggle, he secured the man, who 'had in his possession a fully loaded revolver. Lieutenant-Governor Morgan and hundreds of pasougers watched the chase, and cheered the officers. Lieut-enant-Governor Morgan lifting his hat added : “Good men!” The arrestee also congratulated them on their bravery, saying, that they had faced what he would not, The missing money was found in his possession.
