IN BANKRUPTCY.

BUTCHER AND LABORER FILE. Two petitions in bankruptcy were filed with the Deputy Official Assignee last week. Richard Joseph Phillips, labourer, of Eltham, filed, his petition on May 22nd, atid the first meeting of creditors will be held at the Courthouse, ' Elth'am, on June 24, at 10.30 a.m. liabilities to unsecured creditors amohnt to £53 11s' 7d, and the assets are set down as nil. Petitioner in his statement says that things began to go bach With him in 1910, when ihe was working oh a bushfelling contract at Midhirst, His employer and he were always quarrelling, and after three months work he left without receiving the money due to him. He then took to doing day work in Stratford, until laid up by an accident. He removed to Kaponga, and was again laid up, this time for three months. He was engaged in stone breaking and wood cutting for a month, but was not paid for it. His wife had been twice confined - the commencement of his misfortunes, and‘the expenses considerably increased hie difficulties. He came to Eltham in July, 1912, and had been in regular employment since. He settled all. his bills monthly, but was unable to catch up on his back debts. The other petitioner was Geo. Barker, butcher, of Rawhitiroa Road. His petition was also filed on May 22. The amount owing unsecured creditors -is listed at £B3'3s 7d, and his assets as furniture £25, cash £7, leaving a deficiency qf £57 16s 7d. His statement hae riot yet been filed. The first meeting of. creditors will be held at the Courthouse, Eltham, on Wednesday, June 4, at 11.30 a.m.
