Mr A. Cflxuvry, who is now managing clerk tor Mr P. C. I?ookets, at Stratford, has received notice of having passed his final solicitor s examination.
Madame Bernard, who has been spending a short holiday at Hastings, returned by the afternoon train from Wanganui to-day.
Mr aud Mrs David Smith, of Masterton, Wairarapa ,are at present or. a visit to Stratford as the guests oi ])r. and Mrs Cameron.
Obituary: Captain George Anthony, who, in 1876, aided six Fenian prison-’ era to escape ’from the penal colony at Fremantle by getting aboard the whaler Catalpa and taking them to New York.—New York cable.
The will of the late Mr Whitelaw Reid, for many years the United States Ambassador to England, has been proved. * The testator leaves everything to the disposition of his widow. He expresses his wish that his son, if the latter displays any capacity and aptitude for the work, should ultimately control the New York Iribune. The value of Mr Reid’s American estate has not been disclosed.
