Speculation was very brisk, the machine handling £18,643, compared with £16,128 for the first day of the winter meeting of last year, an increase for to-day of £2515. The going was fair and the racing very, good. A great finish ; a head separating the placed horses. Leonta made a great finish, but could only get within a head of the winner. Time, 2min 12 2,-5 sec. Purua Hack Handicap.—4 Sweet Zinnia 7.9, 1; 2 Austin, 8.0, 2; 1 Mummer, 7.12, 3. 10 Invader 9.3, 7, Tiwari 8.3, ,3 St Self 8.2, 13 Euroco 8.2, 5 Lockwood 8.0, 6 Kurnalpi 7.9, 12 Royal Patron 7.9, 11 Moirette 7,6, 9 Carge 7.6, 14 Kuropotangi 7.0, 15 Opeke 7.0, 8 Sweet Breeze 7.0. Won by a length and a half with the third horse a neck away. Time, Imin 46 4-ssec.
