The Presbyterian Assembly carried i resolution expressing regret at the continuance of abuses in • the New Hebrides under the condominium, and asking that the Australian and Imperial Governments take steps to stop these injustices. The speakers reiterated the charges against the French in selling liquor to the Natives, in the wholesale kidnapping and beating almost to death and selling of natives to one another. The French did not make their subjects keep the law, and no matter what the decision of the joint commission may give, it can only he enforced by the Government officials of the offending party. The Rev. Mr Paton declared that the oondominum was rotten, and it was a thorough disgrace that Britain should have anything to do with it. Years ago missionaries could leave their wives on the islands and they wore safe, hut that was not so since the French had sold grog to the natives.
