A very successful meeting was held in Hawera on Saturday afternoon in connection with the above proposed Society. Fifty delegates representing Inglewood, Ratapiko, Kaponga, Opunake, Otakeho, Kapuni, Hawera. Lowgarth, Waverley, Patea, Normanby Tokaroa, Midhirst, Malapu, Ararata, Alton, Eltham, and Bee-keep-
ers Association attended the meet iug. Mr A. E. Death (Hawera) war voted to the chair.
Mr G. H. Bnckeridge, the Society’s Organiser, reported on the work already done, and briefly outlined the successes attained by similar societies started in New Zealand and other parts of the world. Mr J. R. Corrigan (Hawera) moved, seconded by Mr Dickie (Waverley) that a society to be called the Farmers’ Co-operative Organisation Society of New Zealand. Limited, bo formed.—Carried. Mr A. Symes (Patea) moved, seconded by Mr Bnckeridge, that the provisional directors bo the whole of d dogates appointed to attend this meeting with power to add.—Carried.
Mr Bnckeridge moved, seconded by Mr J. 0. Taylor (Inglewood), and carried, that an Executive Committee consisting of nine, five to form a quorum, bo appointed from this meeting to make arrangements for bankers, solicitors, interim secretary, and other matters in connection with the forming of the Society. Mr T aylor (Inglewood) moved, and Mr P. J. Peterson (Midhirst) seconded, that the Executive Committee bo Messrs G. H. Buckeridgo (Eltham), Dickie (Waverley), Hollard (Kapongi), Jas. Barkla (Hawera), Alf Symes (Patea). A. E. Death (Hawera), E. A. Grey (Lowgarth), J. R. Corrigan (Hawera), and J. 13. Simpson (Maketawa). —Carried. Mr Corrigan (Hawera) moved, Mr J. M. Shotter ■ (Midhirst) seconded, and it was carried, that tho matter of drawing up tho Prospectus, Memorandum and Articles of Association as generally outlined in the Provincial Prospectus as submitted to the mooting be left in the hands of tho Executive Committee to submit to a subsequent meeting of tho Provisional Directors, to be called at a later date. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Bnckeridge for the amount of work ho had already done was carried with loud applause.
A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the most important farmers’ meeting yet held in Taranaki.
The Executive Committee met and appointed Air G. H. Bnckeridge chairman Messrs. HaliwelLmid Sellar (Hawera) were appointed tho Society’s solicitors, and Air R. AA r . Baker interim secretary.
