Wellington, May 5

The Magistrate to-day dismissed the charges against two hotelkeepers of conniving at gambling on licensed premises. Salvatore Salveg, charged with betting in a hotel, was fined £2O. fn the course of his judgment in the cases against publicans, Mr Ri ddoll, S.M., held that betting was not gaming within the meaning of the Act. fn another case in which alleged bookmakers were charged with betting in a public place, to wit, a billiard room, and in which defendant’s counsel contended that a billiard room was not a public place. Judgment was reserved.
