jF AUSTRIA ACTS ALONE.
UNRAVELLING A KNOT,

The latest statement of Austria’s intentions is that unless Montenegro meantime yields, to-day’s conference of Ambassadors will be informed tuat Austria reserves liberty of action, it veil; he optional for others to join with her. Tne particular form of actum has not yet been settled, but there are indications that in the event of intervention alone, Austria, in order to spare Russian feeling, eon templates operating against Scutari from tjie Albanian and not the Montenegrin side. It is understood that should Austria occupy Scutari or the Lovtchcu Heights and Bocche di Cattaro, Italy will occupy Avlona and Santi Juaranta.
It is emphatically stated that Gei many will support any Austrian or Italian action.
Correspondents state that Italy having interests in Albania equalling, these of Austria, cannot afford to let Austria act alone. It is reported that M. Popoviteh, the Montenegrin plenipotentiary in London, has been instructed to make overtures for a friendly settlement.
ALBANIA’S FUTURE. Lord Morley, speaking in the House of Lords, deprecated the discussion of Albania’s future. He remarked:— “The knot we have to unravel is one of the most perplexing that we have ever been confronted with as diplomatists.”
Lord Salisbury, on behalf of the Opposition, promised his cordial assistance and sympathy in any stops tnc Government thonugh it right to take.
