Sir James Carrol, who has been seriously ill, is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. At the Invercargill Police Court day, Colin Gerald, a fanner, was committed for trial on a charge of setting lire to the refreshment rooms at Thornbury. The premises were destroyed, and the loss to the proprietor was £BOO. The Magistrate remarked' though the case was not very strong, he was satisfied it should go before a jury. Bail was allowed in three sureties each of £IOO.—P.A.
The sun-bath is to bo put down at Auckland. Among several new bylaws considered by the City Council that no person shall remain in bathat a recent meeting is one which provides that no person shall remain in bathing costume on any beach for a longer time than is reasonably necessary to enable him to pass from the dressing place to the water,) or from the water tq the dressing place, as the case may be.
