A SUDDEN DEATH.
Many people in the district will hear with regret of the death of Mr W. J. Barleyman, of Kaponga. The sad event occurred about 'five o’clock on’ Thursday evening. It appears (says the Star) that Mr and Mrs Barleyman had just come in from a drive. Mr Barleyman was unharnessing the horse when he suddenly collapsed and died in a very short time. He had been suffering from heart disease for some years. Mr Barleyman was born in Blenheim, and educated at Nelson College. He entered the Customs as a young man, but disliking the work, retired from the service. He came to Taranaki with his father, and subsequently went with him to the Manawatu, where his father had large flaxmill interests. When the mills were sold, Mr Barleyman settled on the land on the Rowan Road, where he has been ever since. Ho was a settler in Taranaki of about twenty years standing, and was about 51 years of age at his death. He leaves a ■ .widow and three children. One daughter is married to Mr Dan Malone, of Riverlea., The other children, a son and a daughter,, are unmarried. Mr J5 r , C- Barleyman,. of Kaupoko-i nui, is a brother of deceased. The Barleyman estate has large interests in Hawera, the trustees having just erected the fine new block of buildings in High street, next the Royal Hotel.
