PETITIONS TO PARLIAMENT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] London, April 22. Petitions representing a hundred thousand women will be presented in the House of Commons to-morrow, requesting permission for women to appear at the bar of the House and plead for enfranchisement.
NON-PAYMENT OF TAXES. A distraint warrant has been levied on the Duchess of Bedford for refusing payment of taxes for a period of eight months as a protest against non-enfranchisement. TAKING TO THE WATER. (Received 9.45 a.m.) London, April 22. Suffragettes burned four pleasure boats at Handsworth, Birmingham. STIFF FINE AND ALTERNATIVE. Annie Bell was fined £5, or twentyone days’ imprisonment.
