HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.
The pictures were very well patronised last week, and Saturday’s house more than usually filled with picture devotees. The programme to be screened this evening should please patrons for it is one of unquestionable merit. “The Old Chess Players,” one of the dramas, reads as follows: Brand, a cobbler, and Julius Stern, a pawn broker, have been friends for years, living near to one another. After working hours they frequently play chess in the cobbler’s shop. Stern’s boy, Isa, and Brand’s daughter are sweethearts and they inform the old men of their engagement during a game. The news is heartily received ; presently, however, an argument ensues regarding a moVe On the board. Tiio old men quarrel, and Stern takes his boy away home, declaring the en■gagement’ off;::Dora' ’Brand, heartbroken fall? sick and the father, watching 'by didi‘'-bedsi&d,' neglects his work and becomes needy. He has parted with many little treasures, and one day needing a little money, sends a friend to pawn the chess set. Stern recognises the set and giving the messenger some money refuses to take the Heaiid his sou then go to cobbler’s flolhe, the old quarrel is made up and the young lovers reconciled. . “Brother and Sister” is the star film, “Waterplane Trials in tho Japanese Navy,” “Stage Struck,” “Sheepskin Trousers!’ Graphic,” and ‘ “Californian Snipe Hunt” also figure on the bill.
