HALF-HOLIDAY QUESTION.

WELLINGTON PETITION INVALID.

Wellington, April 9

The scrutiny of the names to the petition asking for a poll on the Saturday half-holiday question has showed that out of 6570 signatures attached to the requisition, only 2673 were passed as valid. Mr Palmer (Town Clerk) in reporting to the City Council, stated the total number of electors on the combined rolls, including Karori, Onslow, Miramax, and Joimsonville was 27,578, and of these ten per pent, u-as necessary for holding a poll, so that the valid signatures were 84 short. The Town Clerk, therefore, states thai- lie is unable to issue instructions for a poll to be tnken.
