OUTBREAK IN WHANGAREI

[Per Press Association.] Whangarei, April 7

Another fire, the fourth in Whangarei within a week, broke out on Saturday evening in a saddler’s shop occupied by Mr McNaughton. The shop was practically gutted. In the adjoing shops of Voice and Messrs Mcßeady and Harashaw, damage was caused by water and smoke. Mr A. Finlayson is owner of both Voice’s and McNaughton’s shops, and has an insurance policy of £275 on each with the Alliance office. McNaughton’s stock was insured for £IOO in the Victorian office, and Voice’s for £284 in the Alliance office. The stock of Mcßeady and Hamshaw is insured foy £IOO in the Alliance office. PEN-ROOMED HOUSE AND CONTENTS DESTROYED. Wanganui, April 8.

A ten-roomed house situated at St. John’s Hill, and owned and occupied by Edward Tingey, was totally destroyed by fire at 2.30 a.m. together with the contents. The fire had a good hold when discovered. The occupants escaped in their night clothes, and were unable to save anything. The insurances on the building were £750 in the New Zealand Office, and on the contents £4OO in the Commercial, and £250 in the Norwich.
