ATTITUDE OF THE POWERS. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Assoo aim n.] Paris, April 4. At Russia’s instance, France joins Britain in the naval demonstration against Montenegro. Berlin, April 4. Herr Jagow, in the Reichstag, explained that the Balkan League originally contemplated the inclusion of Turkey, but to this the Porte was averse. Germany stood steadfastly on Austria’s side throughout the Albanian negotiations, at the same time striving to promote the fulfilment of Roumania’s desires. There were, he said, considerable difficulties ahead in connection with the Aegean Islands. Germany was seeking a settlement that would endanger Turkey’s Asiatic possessions. THE ATTACK ON SCUTARI. (Received 9.20 a.m.) Vienna, April 4. The Montenegrin attack on Scutari failed. They require time to bury their dead and tend to the wounded, and the attack will be renewed at the weekend, when fresh Servian siege guns will be put into position. The Reichspost advocates utilising 100,000 troops against Montenegro, whether or not the Powers participate. 4000 KILLED AND WOUNDED.
(Received 10.5 a.ra.) Vienna, April ‘l. It is stated that 2000 Servians and Montenegrins were killed, 2000 wounded in the recent fighting at Skutari. Berlin, April 4. It is announced that the demonstration will bo restricted to a peaceful blockade in view of starving Montenegro into compliance with the demands.
