FIRES.

HOUSE DESTROYED AT CISBORNE. [Per Press Association.] Gisborne, April 0. A five-roomed house at the corner of Aberdeen Road and Herbert Street, owned and occupied by E. M. Haultham, was gutted by fire to-night, The insurances were £4OO on the house in the South British Office, and £2OO on the furniture in the Royal Office. ELECTRIC WORKS DESTROYED. Reefton, April 3. The electric light oowerhou-o was destroyed by fire this morning at 7 o’clock. The origin of the outbreak is unknown. The engine, Icier, and turbines of all the machinery can be used again, but the dynamos and other plant are useless. The Fire Brigade’s efforts were unavailing, as t lero. i« no water laid on now. There was no insurance whatever. The damage is estimated at £2OOO. Owing to 11re electric light plant shopping, the town to-night is unlighted. All the local shops arc sold out of lamps and oil.

OFFICES BURNED DOWN

Wairoa, April o. A small fire occurred in imlbi street at 1.20 this morning, when a grain store owned by G. Britnoll, which was recently converted nto offices, was burnt to the ground. The building was occupied by H. L. Uatcliffe, architect, and 0. P. Pulley, harbour contractor, as offices. Nearly all j;he contents werp got out. At one o’clock this morning De Tourets’ photographic studio was completely destroyed by fire and much photographic and kinematographic appliances were burned. There was an insurance on the stock of £ISOO in the Royal, distributed over two buildings. The amount to be paid depends on the amount of the plant and stock in the building destroyed. The building belonged to Mrs Stead and" was valued at £6OO and was insured in the Commercial for £l5O.
