CHINESE CANNIBALISM.

A Hongkong correspondent sends the Auckland Star the following cutting from a local newspaper: “The Way to Become Brave.—Anshun fu, Weichou. Wesberday I witnessed’ a horrible sight. Two nights ago a thief was caught in the act of stealing. The military put him to death yesterday outside the city walls. 1 happened to be standing at our front door as a party of seven or eight men passed carrying the heart and liver of the criminal. I was told that the brains were torn out by another party. These were to be cooked and eaten. The better class ,of Chinese are disgusted with this wickedness. It is quite a; common thing since the revolution began for the bodies of criminals -to be thus insulted and abused. These people who passed us on the way to cook and' eat those parts of a human body were not a bit ashamed of what they wore about to do. They say that to eat the heart or brains of bold bad criminals makes them brave.”
