A VIOLENT GALE.
(By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) London, March 23. A violent gale in the Channel has caused serious damage at Hastings and Worthing. The pier at Hastings Avas demolished, and w.ater invaded the streets for a distance of 200 yards. The storm did £IO,OOO of damage at Worthing. The sea demolished fifteen houses near Lancing. Many houses Avere flooded at Hythe. The sea invaded Hastings, and boats are conveying people to their hotels and residences. At other. Channel resorts serious damage was done.

THE CHINESE LOAN
Washington, March 23. Wireless signals received from the Eiffel Tower, from President Wilson, state that the attitude of the United States to the Chinese loan does not mean that the United States is retiring from Far Eastern diplomacy. The administration intends to make vigorous efforts to promote American trade with China.
FATAL DUEL ON THE STAGE

During tlie performance of Carmen at Arganasilla, be Alba Parde, the leading baritone, and Martinez, tjio leading tenor, who were rivals in a love affair, fought a duel during the third act. Tjie spectatprs were , horrified at the fierceness of the fight. Martinez was killed.
A CHINESE MURDER
Shanghai, March 24
Sung’s murderer and an accomplice have been captured. They have confessed that Sung on his deathbed received the murderers’ letter apologising for' tlie accident and hoping that Sung would have perpetual rest. ■T| T COLLISION AT SEA. London, March 24. , During a storm at Portland the steamer Mary Park collided with H.M.S. Hercules. The former was much damaged, but the battleship not seriously.
