TOKO NOTES.
FAREWELL SOCIAL. On the 12th inst. a farewell social was tendered to Mr and Mrs J. Gardiner in the Toko Road Hall. Although rain fell in the early part of the evening, a large number of people turned up to bid Mr and Mrs Gardiner good-bye before leaving for their new home in the Waikato, A very .pleasant evening was sperit. Songs were rendered by Mrs Wilks, Mrs Hutcheon, Miss Fields .and Miss Jones and were ...ranch appreciated. Mr .White carried out the duties as M.C.Dance music was supplied by Mrs, Hutcheon and Mr Bannett. During the evening speeches were made by . Mr. Erf.Marfell and Mr A. Bocock, the speakers remarking upon the fact that Mr and Mrs Gardiner, who would h( much missed in the district, always took a leading part in getting up socials, sports, etc. The ladies provided supper, which was excellent, and in conclusion all joined in wishing Mr and Mrs Gardiner success in their new home. Toko Domain Board.
Mr Goldie Rutherford having resigned on account of leaving the district, Mr J. Kilpatrick has been recommended to fill the vacancy ._ The Tok6 Domain Board intend to make some improvements to the grounds this winter, by filling in a gully. It will take some 2000 yards of earth to complete the work, and when finished it will make an ideal running track and football ground. Toko Farmers’ Union. Entries for the Calf Competition, which is to be held on the day of the sports, close on the 31st inst. The silver cup, which is presented by the Toko Tradesmen for first prize, will be on view at Mr Bain’s store in a day or two. The cup has to be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals, before it becomes the property of the winner. There are also some handsome prizes given for second, third, fourth, and fifth place. All calves to be yarded by 11 o’clock on the day of the Sports. Sports Committee. A Ladies’ Bicycle Race has been added to the programme, and should be very interesting. The trophies for the sports will be on view in a day or = two at Mr Bain’s store. Personal, Mr A. Smart, Presbyterian Home Missionary, lias been transferred to Hanua, Auckland district, and left: ! «'■ , 7 , 'll,’ this week for bis new home. I
Mr E. T, King, from Ongarue, who has been on a flying visit here, started on his return journey on Thursday night.
