EVIDENCE BEFORE FOOD COMMISSION.

Before the Food Commission, a wellknown produce merchant, in regard to the alleged difficulty of obtaining bran, attributes the trouble to the existence of a millers’ association. As an instance, he said that he imported bran, when the price immediately dropped upon him, and he had to sell at a loss. N.S.W. FINANCE. In reference to the loan, Mr Cam: (Treasurer) claims that the Government has done well considering the state of the money market. He was offered £10,000,000 at 4i per. cent., but the offer was rejected. The State was able to get as much as it wants on equal terms to other borrowing countries of high repute.
BIG FIRE IN LISMORE. Sydney, A larch 18. A fire gutted a large block in the business centre of Lismore. 'I he damage is heavy, but is hot stated. FATAL CAPSIZE OF A PUNT. Port Darwin, March 18. A punt capsized in the Northern river, when three men, Prince, Kennedy, and Charles, were drowned.
ROYAL AGRICULTURAL SHOW. The Royal Agricultural Show opens to-day. In spite of the drought, entries are well up to the average, while in some sections the number constitute records. During the year £42,000 has been spent on the erection of a pavilion and in other improvements.
