At Akron, Ohio, striking rubber workers attempted to storm the police station and liberate a number of strikers. The police defended themselves. Fierce fussiiades follower!, and tho strikers retired with several wounded. Many arrests have been made. “MOSQUITO” FLEET ENGINEERS Wellington, March 13. THE COLLIERY DISPUTE. (Received 9.20 ami.) Sydney, March 13. At a conference of colliery proprietors of the Newcastle district and employees, it was suggested that the federation should give a monetary liond against stoppages. Tho men declined, and proprietors’ then suggested that local agreemeffts bo allowed. The men objected, and the conference ended without result. The position is not bright.
TROUBLE AT PETONE WOOLLEN MILLS. OVER THREE ENGLISH GIRLS. Wellington, March 13. Trouble occurred at the Pctone woollen mills over the action of the Wellington Woollen Company in im porting three female warpers fron England. It appears that when the girls arrived they were informed by the union that they would be getting 35s weekly, and were to replace three men who were getting £2 16s. The union offered them £2 os weekly not to start, striking a levy of Is a heat to find the money. The young women agreed, but after an interview with the mill manager two?’girls decided to commence and did so yesterday. The third starts to-day, The company’s representatives sat the girls had been badgered by the union, and the union men say the company has bullied the girls.

The Full Court uphold the appea of Smith v. the Amalgamated Societ of Engineers. Plaintiff was an en gineer in charge sof the Aram way com panies’ power-house, and was excluder by the society because he disobeyed ai order of the district committee to cease work during the strike of 1912 Defendants intend to appeal to tin High Court.
