THE BOROUGH LOAN PROPOSALS

('lo the Editor, “Stratford Post.”) ■ ® r ’7 T1 ' e i’" 11 0,1 «”> »l»ve proposals <i to lie taken on the 19th instant, am] so far very litle interest appears v ,e * akcn ]) y the ratepayers. At N<nv Plymouth on Wednesday last loans amounting to £97,000 were sanctioned by the ratepayers. What will the Stratford ratepayers do? For the benefit and progress of the town I trust that every ratepayer that can do so will roll tip and vote for the proposed loans. There appears to be a reeling amongst a certain section of ratepayers residing on the south side of the bridge that the northern section of the community will vote against the bridge, and therefore that the southerners will vote against the rest of the proposals. It is a pity that tins feeling should exist. Would it not >e better to sink all differences and vote for the whole of the proposed loans? J he question of rates also enters into the question, but if the Town Clerk’s suggestions are adopted there should be no question of the result of the polls on the drainage and water loans, for these will be made self-sup-porting. For the rest, we must have street improvements, and in a few years’ time a full width bridge will surely be necessary if our hopes of Stratford’s future greatness are fulfilled. And if these improvements are required surely we must be prepared to pay for them. In conclusion, Mr ilxlitor, allow me once more to express the hope that the ratepayers will sink all differences regarding North and South, and vote for the loans as being for the benefit of the whole community and for the future well-being and prosperity of our borough.—l am, etc., A SOUTHERNER, Stratford. March 7th. 1913.
