NEWTON K 1 NCI’S WEEKLY K EEURT. | At Awakino on Thursday, 20th February, 1 held my annual sheep and i cattle fair. There was a line yarding [ of both sheep and cattle, tiie condition being exceptionally good and a line advertisement for tlie distinct. There was a large attendance, including representative buyers from iiawera northwards. Competition for all classes was brisk and, with few exceptions, everything was sold at the hammer. 2-year heifers in calf made £1 13s Gd to £4 Jos, 18-month empty heifers £3 12s 6d, store cows £3 8s to £3 los Gd, fat cows £5 to £5 10s, 3-year forward bullocks £5 16s Gd to £G Is, fat and forward bullocks £G 10s to £7 IGs Gd, 18-month steers £3 10s -to £3 IGs Gd, hulls £1 19s to £7, f.m. ewes Gs to 11s, 2-tooth ewes 14s lOd, 2-tooth wethers 11s 5d to 13s 9d, 4tooth wethers Ids 3d to Ids 9d, shorn Jambs 7s to Bs, cull lambs 3s Gd. At Okau on the following day slieep came forward far in excess of numbers advertised and the yard accommodation was taxed to the utmost. The heavy rain in the morning hampered drafting operations and 1 was unable to commence the sale until two o’clock. On Monday, 21th instant, at Urenui I had a good entry of both cattle and sheep, much in excess of advertised numbers. The attendance was poor and consequently competition was slack. 1 would ask vendors to always advise me if they have stock coming to my sales, as only by doing this can an estimate of the number and quality of stock coming forward be obtained for buyers. Springing cows •£o 7s Gd to £8 2s Gd, springing heifers £4 7s Gd to £G 15s, bulls £2 6s to £G 2s Gd, heifers in calf £4 10s to £4 15s, 20-month steers £3 3s to £3 12s Gd, 20-month heifers r.w.h. £3 5s Gd to £3 9s 6d, fat and forward cows £4 9s to £5 7s Gd, store cows £3 5s Gd to £3 15s, weaner steers £1 IGs to £1 17s, weaner heifers £1 17s 6d, mixed weanors £1 7s Gd, 21-year steers £4 8s to £4 12s, 2-tooth wethers 12s lOd to 14s 3d, 4, 6 and f.m. ewes 10s lOd. On Tuesday, 25th, at my Rahotu yards 1 had my full advertised yarding. Some very good lines were offeied, particularly a pen of 30 well grown 20month steers yarded by Mr Chas. Jeffrey, which sold under keen competition for £4 4s, and a choice line of 15 weaner Jersey heifers on account of Mr A. Phillips, realising £3 Bs. The balance of the entry sold under the hammer as follows: Mixed weaners £1 3s to £1 10s, weaner steers up to £1 11s Gd, Jersey weaner heifers £1 15s Gd to £2 11s 6d, Jersey 18montii steers £2 7s 6d to £2 19s, 20month in-calf heifers £4 Bs, fat and forward cows £4 Is 8d to £6 12s, store cows £3 11s to £3 13s, bulls £3 18t to' £7 13s, springing heifers £4 7s Gd, lambs 7s 3d, unbroken fillies £l3 ss, gelding £l7 10s.

At the Haymarket on Saturday pigs were yarded in moderate numbers. There was a keen demand for good and forward stores but weaners and anything small were dull of sale. I quoteslips and weaners 4s to 8s 6d, small stores 11s Gd to 15® 6d, medium do. £1 os to £1 11s, good do. £1 19s to £2.

At the Mart.—Poultry 7 , hens Is Gd, roosters Is to Is 3d, small pullet* Is Gd, geese 3s Gd, ducks Is 9d, potatoes 8s to 9s Gd cwt., drapery, furniture, etc., at usual rates. Fruit: About 70(J cases came to hand during the week. Peaches 3s 9d, 4s 9d, plums 3s Gd, Is Gd, pears Is 9d, 3s Gd, apples Is 9d, Gs, tomatoes 2s, ss, grapes 4s Gd, ss, according to size of case and quality.
