AN ACTIVE RESISTER. (Per Press Association.) Greymouth, March 3. Robert Semple, for failing to giv< the age of his son to the defence authorities, was lined £4. Semple said that he absolutely refused to give tin information on the grounds of the alleged improper methods adopted to obtain the same. LICENSING. Wellington, March 3. At the Wellington Licensing Committee meeting to-day the Health Department forwarded resolutions passed by the recent conference in Welling ton, recommending as a means of assisting the prevention of tuberculosis the periodical cleansing of hotels. The Department suggested that the Committee should make it a condition in the granting of a license, that, in addition to the ordinary daily cleansing* all bedrooms should lie thoroughly “spring-cleaned” at least once a month. The chairman of the committee pointed out that the Committee could not make such conditions as suggested. FORESTRY COMMTSSION. Invercargill, March 3. When the Forestry Commission met Urns morning, no witnesses appeared. The chairman announced that the commission would visit the forest lands and from their experience be abb' to report. 'Phis was the best course to adopt, but there was certain questions, such as the prohibition of the export of white pine, on which the Commission would require evidence from parties interested. Regarding afforestation, information concerning the growth of various kinds of timber j and the time they took to reach commercial value would he of great assistance in determining the trees to plant.
