DEFENCE OF EMPIRE.
SIR JOSEPH WARD INTERVIEWED. (By Electric Telegraph,—Copyright.) (United Press Association.) London, March 3. Sir J. G. Ward, in an interview, referring to Mr Pearce’s recent statements, denied that there was any failure by Now Zealand to carry out the 1909 agreement. He hoped that the policy of contribution would continue. He did not believe that there was any possibility of New Zealand joining in tho maintenance of tho Australian fleet.
