A SLANDER CASE. (Ter Press Association.) Wanganui, February 26. 'At the Supreme Court to-day, a case of an unusual nature was heard, when I). A. Fraser sued Osmond Dislay and his wife, all of Halconibe, for £507 damages for slander, and malicious prosecution. The case was the result of a recent private prosecution in the Magistrate’s Court, when Fraser was charged with having assaulted Mrs Dislay, the affair being alleged to have taken place in a bakehouse. The case was then dismissed. The jury to-day awarded the plaintiff £l6O. SENTENCE FOR INDECENT ASSAULT. I Wanganui, February 27. An old man named Alexander Waugh was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, with hard labor, by Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout), in thb Supreme Court this morning, for attempted indecent assault on a little girl.
