DOMINION RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
THE ANNUAL SHOOT. The Dominion Rifle , Association’s annual meeting was opened this morning under favorable weather I conditions. Prior to commencing shooting, Colonel Collins addressed competitors, and said he was disappointed with the number of entries. In 1911 there were COO competitors, ; and he then thought the total was soon to reach 1000; then the change in the volunteer system caused a setback, and in 1912 there were only 290 entries. A slight improvement was noticeable this year, the entries totalling 354, comprising 79 Territorials (including reservists), and 275 riflemen. There were 69 tyros. Colonel Collins attributed the fall in the eni tries to lack of encouragement to rifle clubs. He was pleased to notice that the ihajority of rifle club men who sent had entered for the service A start was then made with the Loophole Cover Match.
