The management committee of the Footfall League decided to warn players, and are determined to suppress betting. Northey Smith, bookmaker, Edinburgh, was fined £IOO or two months’ imprisonment for running football coupon betting competitions. William Hodgson suffered a similar fine for the same class of offence. MOTOR CYCLING. MELBOURNE TO SYDNEY. Bolger lowered the Sydney to Melbourne motor cycle record (572 miles) to 23hrs. 41min., thereby winning the Dunlop trophy of a £2O and gold watch offered for the first rider who broke 21 Ins. over this distance. 'iJiist will cut a big slice off Gunn’s late record of 25hrs 55miu. Bolger completed the distance on Dunlop tyres without any troubles with them whatever. BOWLING. Auckland, February 21. The New Plymouth bowlers went down to Onehunga by 107 to 76, and Lied with Epsom in the afternoon. The Waitara Club are sending four rinks to Stratford to-morrow to play Stratford in tho Banner match. Stratford rinks will be selected from tho following:—Black, Brake, Edgecombe, Fookes, King, Jackson, Masters, J. and R. Martin, Mormon, McMillan, MacDonald, Nicholson, Sanderson, Sangster, Skoglund, Smart, Sole, Penn, Porritt, Wright. Rinks will bo selected from those not playing in the match. BOXING. WELLS DEFEATS MEHAGEN. London, February 24. Bombadier Wells defeated Mohegan on points. Wells scaled 9st 9JIb and Mehegan 9st 7|lb. Wells was a slight favourite. The fight was very unsatisfactory up to tho fifteenth round, being mostly clinching. Wells scored freely at every chance, and frequently got in straight lefts in tho open fighting, to which Mehegan did not reply. In the sixteenth round Mehegan began to box, and being stronger scored freely up to the last round, but was unable to make up the points lost earlier. He finished itrongly, and Wells was apparently iring fast. The referee’s decision was cheered, though there was some dissent.
