STRATFORD BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Stratford Borough Council was held last night, when there were present: The Mayor (Mr W. P. Kirkwood), Councillors N. J. King, R. Dingle, J. Boon, J. McAllister, J. I). Healy, T. Lawson, and R. McK. Morison. THE BELL TOWER. Councillor Lawson asked why the bell tower in Broadway South had not been erected, a motion, that it should be constructed immediately, having been passed,at a previous meeting. The Overseer stated that it was impossible to go on with these small works owing to a shortage of labour. THE LOAN SCHEME. The Town Clerk will take the necessary steps to raise the loan. The Mayor stated, in answer to a question, that the Council could borrow at 5 per cent with an addition \ per cent sinking fund. The rate of interest was fixed at not more than 5 per cent. The cost of exchange and like charges had to bo added. GENERAL. According to notice of motion, Cr. Healy moved that the permission given to,the Public Works two years ago to remove earth from a reserve, section 757, on the south end of the river, be rescinded. Seconded by Councillor King and carried.
