STRATFORD “MOUNTAIN " HOUSE.
POSITION TO BE DISCUSSED BY BOROUGH COUNCIL. Mr J. B. Richards, chatting to a reporter of the “Stratford Evening Post” this morning, referred to tho Stratford Mountain House, and remarked that it was a very great pity that the house was not made more popular than it is at present. Mr Richards stated that the “track” was now worthy of the name of a road. It was better graded than the Dawson’# Falls road. He had driven a party of four over it yesterday, experiencing no difficulties whatever. There was, indeed, no reason why a motor car should not be driven right pp to the house. The accommodation provided wa&i good, the two houses being quite saW isfactory, but there was no caretaker. Mr Christiansen, it had been said, failed to make the houso „.ay when lie had been caretaker, but Mr Richards emphasised the point that in the late caretaker’s time the “track” was in a bad state. With the track in its present condition, he was of the opinion that the house, with a little advertisement, would easily pay its way, and provide a fair living for its caretaker. We understand that the matter will be brought up at the meeting of the Borough Council this evening by Mr N. J. King, when Cr. R. McK. Morison, who is a member of the National Park Board, may perhaps be able to enlighten the Council as to the intentions of the Board with respect to our mountain house.
