Mr F. H. Wilkie, of the local Bank 'of Australasia, leaves on Monday next on a three-weeks’ holiday, which he will spend at Argyll East, Waipawa, Hawke’s Bay. Mr L. Baird, New Plymouth, fills the vacancy. Mr T. Wilson has joined the staff of the well known firm of McCluggage and Co. Mr W. T. Young has been re-elect-ed unopposed as secretary of the Wellington Seamen’s Union. Mr G. W. Bennett, Mayor of Inglewood, was on Wednesday presented by councillors with a silver cradle, in honour of the birth of a son during his term of office. Dr. Jas. Gajrfield Mitchell, of the Dunedin Hospital, has accepted the position of house surgeon of the Gisborne Hospital, and will take up his duties on February 15th. ■ ; Mr 0. West, who has been a member of Messrs Hatrick and Co.’s cleri- ’ cal staff at Waitara for the past two years, has been transferred to the •firm’s head office at Wanganui. ■ rr ; " ■ ■ ■ ■■ Mr F. W. Wake, of the firm of Wake and Anderson, returned to Stratford from Auckland last night. The other partner in the firm, Mr W. D. Anderson, left for Auckland by Thursday’s boat. The Hon. W. H. Herries, Minister for Railways, has informed Mr J. B. Hine, M.P., that he will visit Stratford on Tuesday evening next. The Minister will be accompanied by Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager. Major the Hon. R. H. Collins, General Staff Officer at Palmerston North, has been appointed AdjutantGeneral of the New Zealand Defence Forces, in succession to Lieut.-Colonel " G. C.B. Wolfe, who has been appointed inspector of rifle clubs, drill halls, and rifle ranges, with the temporary rank of colonel while so employed. It will be remembered that Colonel Wolfe succeeded Colonel Robin in the office of the Adjutant-Gen-eral, when the latter officer went to England. Mr John Neill, for the past twenty- - eight years secretary of the Southland Education Board, yesterday tendered his resignation. Mr Neill has been for forty-one years connected with education in New Zealand, and prior to becoming secretary of the Board, was a member of the teaching profession. The members of the Board made a very complimentary reference to Mr Neill’s long and faithful service, and decided to grant him leave of absence to the end of the year as from April Ist. Mr E. B. Stohr, for many years a resident of Stratford, who leaves early next week on a visit to Australia, is not to be allowed to depart without some public mark of esteem, and this evening at 8 o’clock, in the Stratford Borough Council Chambers, he will be presented with a testimonial. Last evening Mr Stohr, who has been an active member of the committee of the Stratford Racing Club, tendered hi» resignation, which was accepted with regret, complimentary references being made to Mr Stohr’s past services.
