The ; appeal says: “Unless some defensive: | measures are taken, industries and ; politics will soon be in the hands of j irresponsible persons, who will wage 1 i a class war. The employers irnjSt! cease from drifting, and organise! more effectively.” Ii is proposed toj publish weekly in the newspapers re-j plies to the arguments of the labor j leaders, to publish statistics, and to deal with the proposed legislative enactments. The total cost- is estimated at £SOOO. The appeal ask -| employers to pay annually a sum | equal to half a crown for every hundred pounds of wages paid.

The conj ference of employers and employees I was consequently adjourned till Monday. i - THE GARMENT MAKERS’ STRIKE. New York, February 6. The garment workers’ riots have been resumed. A proprietor’s store was fired, killing a, girl. The demonstrators sacked the shop. Numerous arrests were made. FIVE-DAYS’ WEEK FAVOURED. (Received 9.5 a.m.) London, February 6. The Miners’ Federation ballot resulted in a majority of 60,000 in favour of a five-days’ week. The Federation Committee have referred the result to a special conference.
A SIX-HOURS’ DAY. (Received 10.55 a.ra.) Sydney, February 7. The Labor Conference unanimously added a six-hours’ day io the lighting platform. MERCHANT SERVICE GUILD, The coastal steamship owners declined the Merchant Service Guild’s request for a conference.
