DEATH OF A CONSTABLE.

RESULT OF ROUGH TREATMENT. (Per Press Association.) Palmerston N., February 6. Constable Doyle, who was admitted to the Palmerston Hospital on Monday suffering from a broken leg and facial abrasions, which were the result of an assault made upon him at Shannon last Saturday, died at 5.30 this morning. Deceased was not altogether a strong man, having been on sick leave for a time last September. He was about 35 years of age, married, and leaves a widow and two children, who reside in Auckland. A man named McDonald was arrested on Monday and remanded yesterday for a week.
