FIRES.

A DISASTROUS BLAZE. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 4. A fire broke out late to-nigbt in the New Zealand Express Co.’s stores in Herbert street. The flames secured a good bold, and though they are now (11.45 p.ra.) under, control, it is impossible to say how much the damage amounts to.- The interior of the building is apparently badly gutted. A HOTEL DESTROYED. t Invercargill, February 4. Early this morning the combined hotel and refreshment rooms belonging to Mr George Foster, at Thornbury, were completely gutted by fire. The building is situated at the intersection of the Otautau and Riverton railway lines, and was uninsured. Foster’s loss will be heavy.
