CRICKET.
The Plunket Shield, which was awarded to the Canterbury Association in the 1906-7 season, was won from them by Auckland in the following season. Since then the Northerners have had many tough struggles in defence of the trophy, and up to 1911 were successful in holding it against all comers on eight different occasions. That season, however, saw the Canterbury eleven victorious, and the Shield went back to its original holders. In the following season Auckland again obtained possession of the Shield, which the Southern province has now again wrested from them in the match just concluded. In the 1911 match Lusk and Reese in the second innings of Canterbury, won the match for their side, with a splendid partnership, the former making 151 not out, and the latter 67 not out, after the side had been set the big task of making 280 in the fourth innings of a match which produced 1097 runs. On the present occasion Lusk has again had a big share in the victory, for he made 82 out of the 119 required to win.
