A GIRL IN MALE ATTIRE.
TAKES POISON AND IS SENT TO HOSPITAL. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 4. A girl about 20 years of age, in male attire, was admitted to the • hospital suffering from poisoning by perchloide of mercury. Though her condition is serious, she will probably recover in a few days.
The Salvation Army authorities state that early last evening a welldressed “youth” walked up to the Army Home at Parnell. After ringing the door bell, she was seen to swallow some tabloids from a phial. Suspicion was aroused, and a doctor and the police were summoned. It transpired that the visitor was a girl masquerading in a man’s clothes. She admitted she had taken poison, stating that she was tired of life, and wished to end it. She had been in service in Ponsonby. The girl was removed to the hospital.
