Sydney, January 31
During a heavy thunderstorm at Armidale, the telephone wires fused at one residence, and the inmates received a shock.
Other districts report severe thunder and lightning following the heat wave.
Brisbane, January 31
A cyclone is raging at Cairns with terrific wind and rain. Mountainous seas are raging on the coast, and shipping is sheltering. Slight damage has been done to houses at Port Douglas. The young cane crops are affected.
Adelaide, January 31
Cyclonic disturbances are reported at Port Darwin, accompanied by heavy rain.
