His Excellency the Governor and Lady Liverpool were driven round Dunedin yesterday, and inspected the hospital, the Iloslyn Woollen Mills, and the Karetane-Harris Hospital for babies. In the afternoon His Excellency held a levee at the Town Hall, when a large and representative number of citizens had the honor of being presented to him. To-day the Vice-Regal party will leave for the north. At Oamaru His Excellency will informally receive the members of the Town Council, and at Orari he will take part in a staff ride arranged by Colonel Godley, subsequently joining the second express for Christchurch. On Saturday he will attend the races at Riccarton, and the same evening, with Lady Liverpool and party, he will proceed by steamer to Wellington,
The friends of Mr “Will’ Diamond will be pleased to hear that the operation he underwent at Auckland yesterday morning was quite successful.
Mr K. Caverhill, of the Bank of New South Wales, Rltham, left this morning under orders to transfer to Naseby, Otago, on relieving duties.
Quartermaster Sergeant Lister, of the Taranaki Hiflps, has completed 20 years’ service, “and on Wednesday night was presented with the long service medal by Major Bellringer.
Mr Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner), Sir Joseph Ward, and Messrs D. M. Mason (L.), Dr. Chappie (L.), and A. Fell (U.), members of the House of Commons, welcomed the Hon. James Allen at Charing' Cross, states a London cablegram. Mr Allen is much heneiited by the voyage.
Master Jack Parr, son of the Mayor of Auckland, who is only fifteen years of age, and is a student of the Waitaki High School, has passed his matriculation and solicitor’s general knowledge and medical preliminary exams. He has also won the prize offered by the Otago Navy League for the best essay on “The History of British Naval Power since 1837.”'
