SCULLING. FELTON BEATS TOWNS. (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright,; (United Press Association.) Sydney, January 26. The sculling championship resulted in Felton beating Towns by live lengths. Towns was leading in the first mile. Felton thence steadily gained, and finally went right away, though he was all out at the finish Felton’s time was 21min 44sec. FOOTBALL. ENGLAND DEFEATS FRANCE. London, January 23. England defeated Franco by 20 points'to nil. LAV/N TENNIS. VICTORIA v. BRITAIN. Melbourne, January 26. The fierce sun made the tennis hot work. Dixon lost his first set. He was somewhat disconcerted by Campbell’s clever placing. Dixon’s serving across the court was briliant. In the next two sets he proved superior in every department. Heath’s match with Beamish was exciting, being characterised by hard hitting and fast work. Heath looked the winner, taking the first two sots, but subsequently lost direction and control. Parke played poorly.in the doubles. Dixdn was seldom in trouble. Dunlop’s occasional brilliant volleying enlivened matters. Brookes was always ready when he was needed, his service seldom being at fault, SCORES. Dixon beat A. Campbell, 4—6, 6—l, 6—l. Beamish beat Heath, 4—6, 7—5, 8— 6. Brookes and Dunlop beat Parke and Dixon, 6-6, 6-3, 3—6, 6-4. Present score: Britain, 2 rubbers. 5 sets, 54 games; Victoria, 1 rubber, 5 sets, 48 games. BOXING. Melbourne, January 26. New South Wales, in their first innings, lost eight wickets for 473 Hordern 25, Body 33, Macartney 94, Trumper and Barbour put on 270 for the eighth wicket. Something of a sensation was created in- ftisborn<? cricket circles on Thursday, 16th inst., when Alhambra opened a match with Kia Kaha. Believing that his team had a particularly ; “soft” thing on the Kia Kaha captain sent Alhambra' in to bat, and at the close of tho day’s play the batsmen had put on 406 for two wickets ,as followso. A. Olson 108, M. Guthrie 116, T. Atkinson (not out) 131, W. J. Scholium (not out) 17, extras 34.
