SLAUGHTERMEN’S STRIKE.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, January 24. Sir George piifford, chairman at the conference of New Zealand Freezing Companies, in a letter to the provincial secretary of the Farmers’ Union, • Palmerston North, referring to the resolution of that body approving of the action of the freezing companies in connection with the slaughtermen’s demands, says: “It is satisfactory to note that the general feeling of members of the union was that the companies had offered very liberal terms. It was their intention to offer terms as liberal as was consistent with the due performance of the duties which they owe to the great industry of; which they form an integral part, and, to the workers, whose assistance they fully recognise, the rejection of such terms was almost inconceivable, but if such an event should occur it was gratifying to know that the companies would have the support of the Farmers’ Union of the Wellington Province.”
