AVIATION.
GERMANY’S PROGRAMME
Berlin, January 22,
An inspired statement says that the Government is about to introduce a Bill to provide for a million sterling for airship development.
MILITARY SCHOOL OF AVIATION
Arrangements are being made for the building of a military" school of aviation in the Federal Capital territory. One of the aviator instructors, Mr. Peter, has already arrived. The other, Lieut. Eric Harrison, will reach Sydney this week. He will bring with him four aeroplanes, which have been purchased at a cost of about £BOO each. A number of mechanics are to be engaged in connection with the school. Motor lorries and other vehicles for transporting the aeroplanes to and from suitable grounds for commencing flights are being purchased. The full strength of the new corps will be about 45.
The total number of aviators in the world is reported to be 2100. France has issued 1200 certificates to qualified airmen, England 352, and Germanv 320.
Twenty firms in England are now engaged in the aeroplane-building industry. Many of them, however, °re doing only a trifling business. The Government is being urged to spend £1,000,000 upon the construction of aeroplanes, to enable it to recover lost ground.
