Financiers have offered the New South Wales Government a guarantee underwriting a ten million loan for the'construction of a bridge across the harbour, and also railway connections, conditionally on receiving the contract rights and a percentage in consideration for supervision. The insurances in connection with the St. Kilda fire amount to £9300. The four houses damaged were insured for £IOSO. The total loss is estimated at £60,000.

The overseas trade with the Commonwealth during 1912 was as fol-lows:-—Imports £78,098,313, an increase of eleven millions for the year. The net Customs excise duty was £15,643,293, an increase of two millions, The exports amounted to £78,834,730, a decrease of £647,528. Specie and bullion exported increased by £396,351, and other articles decreased by £1,043,879.
