AMUSEMENTS.

, - THE BURNS’ DINNER. It is hardly necessary to remind Scotsmen of the Burns’ Dinner to be held in the Town Hall on Friday evening next, but it should be mentioned that the. committee is doing its utmost to make the evening a success. The secretary (Mr A. Henderson) has a willing band of enthusiasts to assist him, and his efforts to make all visitors thoroughly enjoy themselves should be rewarded with a big attendance. Any gentleman who has the misfortune not to have been born a Scot, but has the good fortune to have friends in the society', can be assured of a hearty welcome. Last year’s “Wee Scots Nicht” was so enjoyable that it would be difficult to imagine anything but another big record for Friday evening, when everything will be conducted on a far more ambitions scale. PRESBYTERIAN CONCERT. ... To-morrow evening, lovers of music will have an opportunity of hearing an excellent concert programme, contributed by the most prominent local amateurs, and assisted by Miss- Best, a talented Auckland singer. The concert, which will be held in St. Andrew’s Hall, is in aid of the Manse fund. The programme is as follows; Pianoforte solo, E Minor Sonata, first movement, Miss Bayly; song, selected, MT Douglas; violin solo, Air Voire, Miss Rogers; song, Melisande in the Wood,- Miss Best; song, Thora, Mr Jones; recitation, Papa’s Letter, Miss Duthrie; song, Beloved it is Morn, Miss Best; cornet solo, Tosti’s Goodbye, Mr R. Davies; song, Where’er You Go, Miss Bayly; song, Anchored, Mr Jones; song Perfect Day, Miss Best. HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE. A sensational programme is promised at His Majesty’s "Theatre for tomorrow evening. Of “A Lion Let Loose,” the Ganmpnt Company say: “When the great film ‘Attacked by a Lion’ was produced, the general impression formed in the trade was, that the limit had been reached in realism as far as cinematography was concerned, but we have reason to believe that that limit has been pased, and in placing ‘A Lion Let Loose’ on the market, we do so with a confidence that it will be judged the greatest film ever produced.” Patrons will have an opportunity of forming their own opinion on the picture on Thursday next. -“Missionaries in Darkest Africa” is also another picture of the type that is not released every day. This extraordinary production was made in Africa by the Kalem Company, under the personal direction of Sid Olcott, from the story by Gene Gauntier. Three Kalem artists portray the leading parts. All the tribesmen shown in the picture are natives of Africa. This photoplay is of special interest as it is the first one ever made in the heart of Africa. The supporting pictures will each make their special appeal, and no doubt the Essanay film, “The Little Sheriff,” a sensational and nerve-tingling Western melodrama, in which a clever little pantomimist plays the title role, will meet with a good reception, for the story is replete with the good oldfashioned thrills and spirit of the West.
