HIGH COMMISSIONER’S CABLE

Wellington, January 20
The High Commissioner has forwarded the following cable message, dated London, January 18 (quotations unless otherwise specified are average market prices on spot):—
Mutton.—The market is very firm on account of small supply, and a continuance of high prices is anticipated. Canterbury cannot be quoted, North Island, 4£d.
• Lamb.—The market is firm with a good demand, especially for best quality. New Zealand new season’s 6|d; last season’s sijd. There is a large supply of Australian and there are many carcases of inferior quality. Australian, 5Jd ; River Plate, s^l. Wool.—The market shows signs of strengthening. Americans in the market are buying freely.
