Timaru, January 20
News was received from the Hermit age to-day that for the last eleven days heavy rain has been experienced there, and tourists are unable to gel about. On Sunday there was an exceptional downpour, and vhat with the rain and the melting of the snow, all the creeks in the Upper Tasman Valley were flooded and the road much damaged. At the Hermitage an overflow from the Mullen Glacier covered the floor of the building and damaged the approaches. It is doubt? il whether motor-cars can get beyond ■Glentanner for a while. To-day a packhorse could not face the creek?, which are rolling down heavy boulders.
AUCKLAND’S EXHIBITION
Auckland, January 21
The Exhibition Committee considered tenders for lighting by gas and by electricity, and accepted the Auckland Gas Company’s tender. It was decided to erect a hall to accommodate 1000 people.
