UNLOADING CEMENT AT THE
WHARF
(Received 8.15 a.m.) Hobart, January 18
Instead of the Corinthic’s departing for New. Zealand on Thursday morning, she was delayed until three o’clock in the afternoon owing to trouble with the Wharf Labourers’ Union. Following the usual custom the work of unloading cement, three casks at a time, was commenced, but the secretary of the Union objected 'to it as being too heavy work and the stevedore engaged an extra'man. The Union demanded that only two casks should be hoisted together) and threat ened to strike if the extra men were withdrawn. 'The stevedore perforce conceded the demands.
